What were you doing before attending Sprott Shaw College?

I started with Sprott Shaw as soon as I arrived in Canada in 2022.

Why did you choose Sprott Shaw College?

Because of their flexibility with scheduling and the admissions process I chose to enroll.

How was the admissions process?

It’s pretty simple if you are fluent in speaking and understanding English, as I am. Additionally, I had the best admission advisor, who guided me perfectly through the process.

What program did you choose and why?

I first graduated from a four-month Business Fundamentals program, and then I pursued a longer Paralegal program, which I recently completed.

What was the environment like during your time at Sprott Shaw College?

The instructors were amazing—always ready to compromise and address any issues with fairness and understanding. My classmates were very supportive as well. It was exactly what I needed: a positive, fair, and safe environment for learning.

Where was your practicum or co-op and how was it?

I was hired by BC Public Service a month before completing my program. I used my training period as my practicum, which Sprott Shaw agreed to. It made me very happy to practice what I had learned in a place where I plan to pursue my career.

How long did it take you to find a job after graduation?

I was advised to start applying for jobs in the last trimester of my program, which I did. As a result, I was hired a month before completing my program.

Where do you work? Can you explain your duties?

I work for BC Public Service, and my duties include tasks before, during, and after court. I must admit that my current knowledge exceeds what I need to perform my functions, which I truly appreciate and enjoy.

If you could give advice to someone coming to Sprott Shaw, what would you say?

Find a schedule that works best for you, and don’t hesitate to talk to your instructor or advisor about any issues—they are very understanding and supportive. There is always a solution to help you learn in the most comfortable way possible. Complete your assignments as instructed and strive to master everything, as the programs are highly effective once you start working.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

Arriving in Canada as a single mother with my two-year-old, I was initially scared and uncertain about my future. However, Sprott Shaw has been a game changer for me. The flexible schedule allowed me to study while managing my son, and the supportive environment fostered encouragement, appreciation, and fairness. The intensity of the studies has paid off, and now, as I start my career, I see this position as just the beginning of a promising future, built on the knowledge I gained through these programs.
