What were you doing before attending Sprott Shaw College?

I worked in various jobs, including warehouse, factory, and cleaning positions.

Why did you choose Sprott Shaw College?

I enrolled in the HCAP program through the Health Ministry and was placed at Sprott Shaw College in Abbotsford.

How was the admissions process?

It was fairly simple, the staff at the college provided all the information on the requirements.

What program did you choose and why?

I was placed in the HCA program through the HCAP program. I wanted to start a new career, help people, and do some good in the world every day.

What was the environment like during your time at Sprott Shaw College?

The environment was great as well as the instructors.

Where was your practicum or co-op and how was it?

My practicum was at Cascades Long Term Care in Chilliwack. It was a great experience; I had a fantastic instructor, learned a lot, and was able to put all my studies to use to provide care every day.

How long did it take you to find a job after graduation?

Since I was part of the HCAP program, I had a job lined up from the beginning of my entry to college.

Where do you work? Can you explain your duties?

I work as a CHW (Community Health Worker) here in Abbotsford. I go from home to home, providing clients with the daily care they need to live as healthy and independent as possible.

If you could give advice to someone coming to Sprott Shaw, what would it be?

I would say, pay attention to the learning, ask questions as much as you need, study hard, and do your best. If you do, you will have success.

Is there anything else you would like to share?

Study hard, have fun, and enjoy learning. Everything will come easily.
