Lori MacLean, the Coordinator at Lookout Housing and Health Society, shared her positive experience with our alumni, Laura Chui, highlighting her professionalism, the opportunities she experienced, and the invaluable help she provided to the staff.

What were some of the student’s daily tasks and responsibilities?

Laura helped serve food to our guests throughout the day, observed our staff interacting with individuals struggling with addiction and mental health issues, and witnessed a couple of overdoses, as well as how our staff is trained to handle them before paramedics arrive. Laura also had the opportunity to observe our OPS and SIT tents. Additionally, she assisted with distributing food from our food shelf to guests.

Was the student prepared for the job in terms of skills, knowledge, and professionalism?

Laura was very professional and handled the situations with great calm. She was an invaluable help to our staff and is definitely missed here at PSG.

Why did you choose to host or hire from Sprott Shaw?

Here at PSG we always welcome students from different schools and enjoy having them join us and see what we do here.

Would you recommend other employers to host or hire from Sprott Shaw and why?

I would definitely recommend other employers host a student from Sprott Shaw. They are a valuable asset in providing support, and it gives the students valuable experience in seeing how different organizations operate.
